P90X Program results

Day 90 and beyond

I am not going to start counting day 91 until I start Insanity, but just to keep everyone abreast of our situation, we did our fit test and pictures yesterday and today we just did an early morning run.  I am going to post my results pictures in a little bit some of the results are very exciting!

Day 90

Core Synergistics

And.....We......Are.......Done!
We did our best and forgot the rest,
We stirred our soup,
We didnt smash our faces,
We "Xed" it,
We got sexy with it,
but most of all we Brought it.

Im not even going to talk about Core because we've been there done that, but today was the last day of our P90x program, and let me tell  you it has been a long road and just like Tony describes Ab Ripper X "I hate it…….but I love it.”  That is how I feel about P90x, I hate waking up at 5:30 in the morning but I love the sense of pride and accomplishment that starting the day off right and with a bang has given me.  I hate dieting and exercising but I love the way I feel, and I love the results I've gotten over 90 days, and in fact I dont wake up hating the fact that I have to workout, but enjoying the moment, and it has really made me grateful that I have the ability to wake up each morning and do a program like this, because there are lots of people out there who canr.  Whether it be an illness or disability or maybe just the fact that they waited to long to get into shape, I know that now I can do things that I couldn't do 90 days ago, and it has prepared me for an active happy life that I may have never seen.
P90X is by no means some sort of magical program that lets you get into shape without lifting a finger, its not some magic pill that makes the fat drip off you, you cant eat burgers, and fries, drink sodas and expect to get results, you have to dig in deep and reach into that part of your brain where your body says "I cant do this" and find whatever it takes to do your best and forget the rest.  You have to work hard, I don't mean 10 minutes of exercise and then you go back to the TV, I mean working out an hour to an hour and a half, and if you are doing it right your body will ache, not with pain, but with the desire to work hard, to go further, and to push yourself to limits you didn't even know you had.  I didn't really make it apparent in my blog posts, but we actually did our own little version of doubles, for those of you who don't know doubles is the highest level of p90x basically you add an hour of cardio-X to you resistance days.  Tiera and I added running to our resistance days so every Monday Wednesday and Friday we had to run as well as do our normal morning workout.  This is not because I am a Masochist , its because after 30 days of P90X I knew I could bring it even more, with every extra pull up, and with the occasional addition of a plate to my dumbbells I was doing it not just for the way I looked but for the way I felt about myself, I have not only gained strength, agility, and endurance physically, but I have learned the strength of my own Will, how agile the limits we place on ourselves can really be, And how much our bodies can do once we shut off our minds and focus on our breathing and push ourselves to points We have never been before.

This is not the end of journey just the beginning;
The plan is, now that we are finished with P90X we go on vacation Friday to California, when we come back I will start Insanity, and after that I have a P90X and Insanity hybrid that I will use to maintain.

I will continue to post my progressss through Insanity and beyond I hope I can advance and get to the point where I can help others reaach their goals, and turn their lives around.

Day 89

Yoga-X

We did Yoga today because we were supposed to pick my mom up at the airport, so we got to knock it out early.  The last yoga workout of the entire program!  Tiera was super happy and I am happy to say I didnt miss a single yoga, in the beginning recovery week we did supplement two of the yoga days for stretch X but that was because we just werent ready for Yoga yet.

Day 88

X-Stretch

X-Stretch is a good workout for building up your flexability.  I enjoy this day each recovery week because honestly its a nice and easy workout, but it definetly helps with yoga.

Day 87

Kenpo-X

Another Day of Kenpo this was a great workout, and I had my crawfish boil afterwards, I am glad I did it because it gave me a ton of energy for the rest of my day and I am telling you I definetly needed it!

Day 86

Core Synergistics

Core is a really awesome workout, it works your arms, back legs, and everything in between.  This will be a workout that I will continue to use once the program is over.

Day 85

Yoga-X

One down one more to go then no more Yoga, I have enjoyed advancing with Yoga but I am definetly ready to not have to look forward to an hour and a half workout.

Day 84

Kenpo-X

Last day of the regular workouts then Recovery week begins and we are done.  Today was a good workout, kenpo of course is and has been a fun one.

Beachbody Coach

In order to take my fitness programs to the next level I have become a Beachbody Coach!  If anyone has any questions about products or programs feel free to give me a holla.

www.beachbodycoach.com/SROBISON62

Day 83

Legs and Back

Back to waking up early and working out today was a good workout, my pullups were lower and more abundant, my legs ache but I feel like I have really advanced with my back workouts.  This was the last one we had to do, so no more, sneaky lunges, seiber squats, toe roll iso lunges, Im done baby!!!

Day 82

YogaX

Ah two days of rest and we slept in Monday morning, when we got home from work we got back on the horse with YogaX.  I am glad we waited until the afternoon because Yoga is definetly a better end of day workout than a start the day workout.  Calmness of body and mind sounds great but it doesnt really feel like that when you are on your 12th vinyasa.

Day 81

Easter Sunday
Rest

Being Perfect
Perfectionism is not an attribute in my opinion so don't beat yourself up when you miss a few workouts or eat some Easter candy. The goal is to have far more good days than bad. Exercise for the joy of feeling good and getting better. Eat right with the intention of fueling your body with the things it needs to perform.

Day 80

Rest 1/2

Ok so since we are in south Louisiana and cant come up with the hour and a half we need to do Yoga we took this weeks rest day today and next weeks tommorow, so we will still finish in 90 days but we wont have a rest day.

Day 79

Back adn Biceps

This workout is the one that puts me in Beast mode!  its a good ole weights and pull up workout nothing crazy just lifting, Ill probaly ad this one to my hybrid program after insanity.

Day 78

Plyometrics

Tough one today this week has been hard, I dont know if it is because we have cut the carbs so much or because we havent had a solid rest day, or maybe the beer and margaritas from this weekend, heck maybe its a combo of all of the above!  But this was the last time we had to do plyo for the remainder of this 90 days so I did my best to kill it!  I hope all these plyo workouts have gotten me ready for Insanity!

Day 77

Chest Shoulders Triceps

This week we did our running on Sunday today and we will run after plyo tommorow, because we are going down south for Easter.  Today was a pretty tough workout but I was feeling strong and I am starting to see "the nugget"!

Day 76

Kenpo-X

TOugh workout, I dont think we have recovered completely not having a rest day but its definetly getting better.

Day 75

Legs and Back

Talk about a tough workout after doing the warrior dash the day before, we drove in this morning so we did our workout after work, but we counted yesterdays run as todays so that was some relief.

Monday, April 18, 2011

Day 74

Rest Day (haha yea right!)

Warrior Dash

Yesterday my wife and I  did the Warrior Dash run in North Texas.  For anyone not familiar it is a 5k, but it only resembles a normal 5k in length.  Ours had 12 different obstacles including a giant wall that you have to climb using a rope, jumping over fire, swimming across a pond, a mud pit complete with barbed wire to crawl under, and many more.  It was not only the craziest thing I have ever done, but it was also the most fun.  There were a few overweight people out there doing it for fun but mostly it was very fit, inshape people, and when they dropped back, or started walking, or curled up in the fetal position in fear of an obstacle :), I thanked Tony for every pull-up, push-up, and even jump freaking knee tucks, as I ran past them.  I included a couple of pictures mostly for everyones enjoyment, but you should all check out there website, because it really is something you will remember for the rest of your life.
http://www.warriordash.com/

Day 73

Yoga-X

We did Yoga at my sisters house, because we are doing Warrior Dash tommorow.  Tiera had to cut out after the moving options, but I stuck in there and finished.  I really do believe Yoga has helped me get into all over physical shape, but I am not looking forward to having to do it 3 times during recovery weeek.

Day 72

Chest Shoulders and triceps

This is a great workout, great in the sense that it works out all those pretty muscles that we like to show off :)
I did take it a little easy not in the sense that I didnt feel the burn, but I didnt kill my muscles like I usually do on this workout, because I wanted to make sure I was recovered for the warrior dash this weekend.

Day 71

Plyometrics

We decided to do Plyometrics during the afternoon, and I dont think I ever want to do that again, it was so hard for me today, I got super light headed and was just worn out, it also could have something to do with our diet this week, we have been doing shakes for lunch and salads for dinner, so we havent eaten hardly any carbs.

Day 70

Chest and Back

Probaly my favorite workout in P90X, its so simple but the pain is so complex.  Its a good pain though and it alone could be enough of a workout, thats the beautiful thing about P90X the amount of muscle confusion is what makes the program so effective.  Tony says it on the leg workout best its not about doing the same workouts everyday, you have to change it, up variety as they say is the spice of life.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Day 69

Kenpo-X
Today leads us into the 70's wow thats amazing I cant believe we have been working out 6 days a week for 70 days, plus running in the afternoons also and eating healthy, whats even more amazing is I cant imagine waking up in the morning and not working out, I hope this is a habit I can keep for the rest of my life!

day 68

Legs and Back

This week we are trying a new diet, because last night we ate freaking icky, sticky, gooey, gross, delicious dessert!  We are doing granola in the morning a light snack, then shakeology for lunch, a protein bar as a snack, and then salads every night for dinner.  This is preperatory for the warrior dash this weekend.  and since we have to run sunday and we are leaving friday after work, we are just doing all three of our running days Monday, tuesday, and Wednesday...fun, fun, joy, joy.  I weighed in this morning at 187 which is 2 pounds away from the goal I set myself to be at by 2012, that makes me happy!  Plus Tiera is down a total of 25 pounds since before we went to vegas last year so we have had a fairly productive year!

Day 67

Yoga-x

FUn Fun Fun sigh I wish it was more fun, I dont mind it to much, Tiera hates it, but I dont think I would mind doing some Yoga classes or some other workouts, just so long as they are shorter.

Day 66

?Rest? Day?

Yea our dvd player went out, but on the good side we got a new one with wi-fi built in, so now we can watch netflix, hulu, amazon, listen to pandora, and I use my Iphone as a remote.  Yea its pretty amazing, we did run today though so we wont have to tommorow.  Yoga it is.

Day 65

Back and Biceps

Talk about making your arms look good, this workout is perfect for that, if I ever become a modell, insert jokes here, I will do this workout before my photo shoot because it absolutely blasts your arms!

Day 64

Plyo

Blugh Plyo is so hard I odnt know how in the workd I am going to be able to do insanity.  Keep pushing play i guess...

Day 63

Chest SHoulders Triceps

This is one of my favorite upper body workouts, I love how it has ripped up the side of my arm.  Yay for P90x!

Day 62

Kenpo X

This was a really hard Kenpo day I dont know what caused it but I got a really good workout from it, lots of sweat!

Monday, April 4, 2011

Day 61

Legs and Back

Today was a great workout, when I woke up I was kind of sleepy but I got over and we got to work, I have continued to advance atleast a little bit in every workout we have done, and looking at todays pictures I can see the difference between day 1 and day 60, we took our pictures today and I am overall pretty happy with the results, I would like to see more fat loss, but I am getting there, i think I will have to try out insanity when I am done with p90x.

Day 60

Yoga X

Yoga was good this morning I think it may be something I might keep doing after p90x I like the way it makes me feel, on a side note I ran 4 miles following yoga, i am trying to get ready for my warrior dash!

day 59

Shoulders and Arms

Another old school first of the program workout bringing back the German Potato Soup, the congdon curls, and all the goodness of Tony Horton.

day 58

Plyometrics

I love me some plyometrics, I didnt really feel up to the task this morning, but I did it all the same.  I wore my new doo rag to workout in and that thing felt like it fell in the toilet after I was done.  I have finally achieved my goal to do my workout just like Dominic though so I am very happy about that!

Day 57

Rest

We took today as a rest day since it was the last day Tieras Family was in town, Im going to miss my Sunday without workoing out, but I think taking a rest day during the workday is smarter anyway.

Day 56

Chest and Back

Recovery week is over and we are back to the hard stuff!  Chest and Back I have missed you so.  We havent done chest and back since week 3 and the first workout is pushups well if you check my workout sheet it will tell you on week 3 I did 19 pushups and on day 56? 40!  Tell me thats not advancement.  Push ups and Pull ups are the mettle of this workout and it is a good one.  no weights needed just good ole fashioned work.

Day 56

X-Stretch

Alright well, gotta love X stretch because it is super easy, although it does really help with the flexability.

Day 55

core synergistics

Core is a great workout, I love the different isolationg engaging exercises that workout those parts of your chest and stomach.  I feel like  I get better with these every time and maybe after I do insanity I will have the abs to prove how good of a workout this is.

Day 54

Rest Day

Yay for rest day Tieras mom and dad come in tommorow so we are going to do core in the morning that way we will only have x stretch for the first morning they are here.

Day 53

Yoga X

We moved around our whole recovery week because Tieras mom and dad were coming into town so we went ahead and did Yoga on Saturday, It was a really good workout, I feel like I am really advancing and getting lower and holding my moves longer every day.

Day 52

Kenpo-X

Ok so I am way behind on updating each day and they are starting to run together!

kenpo is once again my favorite workout and my best, but this one killed me I sweated so hard, I dont know what was wrong with me but I still managed to do everything like I had been doing it.

Friday, March 25, 2011

Day 51

Yoga-X

So Yoga is by far the hardest workout to do in the morning, mostly because it takes so long, so we decided it would be better to do it when we got off work, and after much debating and deciding if we wanted to take the easier option and do Stretch X, or do cardio, or anything!  But we finally pushed play and knocked that sucker out, and we did our best...now we just have to do it again Saturday and then we are yoga free for a week.

Day 50

Core Synergistics

We were supposed to do Yoga today but we had to get early because I was making a trip to Lake Providence, so we just switched our days.  Core is a really good workout, it works out those muscles that you either forget about or didnt even know you had, I have been having a really stiff back lately so I am hoping this will help work some of that soreness out.

Day 49

Kenpo-X

This is a workout that I love love love, until my daddy took the T-bird away...Ok maybe I have listened to Tony H. too much during this p90x journey.  But besides the fact I love doing Kenpo, something about punching imaginary bad guys drives me too work harder, and boy do I work hard during this workout.  I was sweating so much my punches were flicking bits of sweat on the TV, and I am not that close.  Kenpo is just one of those workouts that gets me in the zone, and I would really feel sorry for any burgular that tried to break into my house while I was in the Kenpo zone.

Day 48

Legs and Back

Sneaky Lunges *Blah*
Pull-Ups *Blugh*
80-20 Debbie Sieber Squats *Barf*
Chair Lunges *Ugh*

Mix all those with a bunch of other workouts and you get the most glute blasting, leg numbing, back burning workout in the whole bunch.  Not a problem workout by any means but one that pushes me to my limits every time.

Day 47

Rest Day

Today we went to our godsons baptisim, and we had a brunch afterwards, it was a good day and Tiera went to my cousins wedding shower afterwards while I cleaned the house, mowed the yard, and played video games as long as I possibly could.  It was a good day.

day 46

Tiera was feeling sick so we didnt do our workout in the morning instead we spent a lazy morning then we went and ran all of our errands, We also were not able to run on Thursday so we had to do Yoga then run, needless to say it was a pretty hectic day, but we made it through it and got our workout on.  Yoga of course is super tough not in the lifting, cardio, kind of way, but if you have done Yoga you know its just "hard".  Standing in a position that is uncomfortable and off balance for 30 seconds pushes your body to a different kind of physical limit.  Yoga is alot harder in the mind before you start than it is once you get into it however so the trick is to keep pushing play.

Friday, March 18, 2011

day 45

Whoop Whoop Half Way through!

Everyone on your feet, cheer, do the wave!
Seriously though it feels great to be halfway through and I really look forward to getting my end game results.
And to all my readers ( all 3 of you)  thank you for keeping me motivated and giving me an outlet to keep myself on the right path.

Back and Biceps

Today was a really good workout, I am still fighting my injury from legs and back, and I am sure deciding to up my weights doesnt help much.  But next week is recovery week so I really wanted to kill it on the last lift day untill the last weeks.  I have definetly gotten better with my pullups and I have definetly gotten stronger, but my weights are such a pain to change I just lift heavier weights when I know I  shouldnt and I am afraid it is messing up my form, but it takes so dang long to switch out weights.  I have also started using the band on a couple of the workouts and they give some really great resistance.  Well heres to the end half of P90x!

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Day 44

Plyometrics

Actual DNA removal
Pyo, Plyo, Plyo, the good thing about plyo...water break the bad thing, everything else.  When I say bad I say it with the upmost reespect because plyo has pushed me beyond limits that I never thought I could even get too.  It is amazing how far you can push your body and all you have to do is push it once because if you are anything like me once you have done non stop double time jump knee tucks, then you can never go back to doing them normal speed.  Thats what I continue to do each plyo workout and it is the one that gets my heart rate into the 190 zone.  today I burned 950 calories but I only maxed out at 190 bpm 1 and 2 beats slower than normal, but hey maybe I am just getting in better shape.  I also used the same strategy on the easier workouts that I did with kenp...intensify!!!  so this workout I ended up with a continually higher heart rate throught the workout.  I felt like I was going to pass out a couple of time and I had some serious DNA removal, and all in all I think it was a great workout!

Day 43

Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Ab Ripper X

I like this workout alot, it really hits you in the triceps, but I hate hate hate doing the slow motion pushups.  I guess that means I should do more of them :).  They kill me and it is really hard for me to even do one with out taking a break in between.  I was able to knockout 2 plyo pushups in addition to my claps, and I did 4 1 arm pushups.  ab ripper X is as hard as always, but I am slowly advancing.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Day 42

Kenpo X

I love Kenpo so much but my problem has always been keeping my heart rate where I want it to be, well today I figured it out.  Before when we were doing the block portion I would drop to aroud 140 but today I got up in the 180's  the reason why...adding intensitity Tony Horton knows his stuff I just moved fast enough with the force I thought would be neccessary to actually block a punch or kick and it really boosted my heart rate up.  Bad new is since we are doing painitng with a twist tommorow night we wont be able to run so we have to run again today!  :( all part of the plan to be sexy I guess.

Day 41

Legs and Back

If sneaky lunges, sieber squats, super skaters, and deadlifts werent enough Tony decides to make you do pull ups in between.  It really is a tough workout and it kills my knee, but I feel accomplished every time I do it.  Oh yea plus since we are doing our own version of doubles we had to run 21 minutes when we got home also.

Monday, March 14, 2011

Day 40

Yoga X

Well like I said last week we decided to start doing Yoga again... Its not that the workout is just crazy hard but man it takes forever.  And the moves are very difficult but we made it through it and I guess it wasnt all that bad, I guess I am more flexable and I really do believe that doing stretch X helped alot.

Day 39

We took Saturday off because we ran our first 5k of the year, Tiera and I really want to start running more, and I really had a good time.  I dont even mind running on my off day.  Last year when I ran this same race I hurt my foot and I finished in 34 minutes.  This year I felt like I could have kept running!  I finished in 30 minutes so I guess p90x is really helping out!

Friday, March 11, 2011

Day 38

Back and Biceps

Pull ups and Dumbells...
I increased my weights to 30lb dumbells and tried less reps at a heavier weight, it was tough but I managed to get through all my workouts, except I do my stripped down curls and my 21's with the bands.  Those things can give you a really good workout but you have to make sure you isolate those muscles.  I have continued to improve on my pull ups I am just trying to get 1 more per workout, I am going to start knocking out more chair assisted pullups however.  On a side note I knocked the hell outta my shin doing pullups, basically I came down on the top of my shin, on the chair, and scrapped it all the way down.  This is my first P90X injury, minus my normal ankle pain, so I guess I should count myself lucky that I made it 38 days.

Ab Ripper X
I made some improvements to my ab ripper X also, I have started doing the reps a little faster and I got between 20-25 reps of each workout now which is an improvement because I have always had a tough time with abs.  Now we just have our run when we get home.

Day 37

Plyo

Everyone whos done P90X knows how tough Plyo is this seems like the millionth time I have done Plyo and guess what it hasnt gotten easier.  In fact it seems like its getting harder, I am sure the soreness in my body has something to do with that.  My heart rate monitor says my max heart rate during the workout was 192, and that I burned a total of 914 calories.  WTF!!!!!!  900 calories is like a whole days worth of food.  Who is this Tony Horton guy?

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Day 36

Chest Shoulders and Triceps

This workout has turned out to be a really tough one.  The pushups are cool in the sense that it is a completely different workout than a normal pushup.  However they suck big time cause they hurt so bad.  The workout is really working out my triceps, obviously, and I have seen a little definition since the last workout.  I am hoping to achieve great results with this program because I can see where it really strengthens the arms.

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Day 35

Kenpo X
If you have read my blog before you know that Kenpo is my best workout.  However due to the extreme ass whooping (all pun intended) that legs and back gave me yesterday, today was actually really tough.  I sweated bullets and burned right at 750 calories, but I have been having alot of trouble with body movement.  It just doesnt feel natural the way I am moving so of course that tells me I am probaly doing something wrong.  But I will continue to do my best and...

Day 34

Legs and Back
Im writing this on the 8th and let me tell you my butt and my legs are sooooo sore I dont know what I have been doing for the last 30 days, its amazing too me that we can do the same workout that we have done before and it still makes us sore.  It just goes to show you that you really have to push your intensity level if you want to be successful.  I have actually been able to do a set of 10 pull ups without the chair so that is a huge step for me.  I really need to work on my lunges mostly form, because if you dont have good form they really are kind of pointless, I guess I am just not coordinated enoughto do them as fast as "the kids."

Day 33

Yoga (Sub stretch X)

We we did Stretch X with all of Tieras Nieces and Nephews( 12,8,4)  needless to say it was kind of a pain but we did it and we did it right.  We have decided that we have outgrown stretch x and we are going to move on to Yoga X from now on.  So now we have that to look forward too.  Yay!

Day 32

We decided to take Saturday as our rest day because we are spending the weekend in Alexandria baby sitting and it has just been too tough.  However we are going to do our best to do Stretch X tommorow.  Yea we are still subbing stretch X for Yoga but its only because we honestly feel like we are advancing with it more.

Day 31

Back and Biceps
This was the first time we have done this workout and man is it tough!  I feel like I have never worked out before I am actually just now catching up on the the blogs and its Tuesday and I am still aching.  The clap pushups, all I can say about those are that I thought I was pretty tough doing a couple until I saw Tony Horton flying into the air clapping, I mean come on dude.  Definetly the most effective upper body workout yet.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Day 30

Plyo

I dont know if it is just a coincidence or if it is planned but what is amazing being 1/3 of the way through p90x is that one of the big things p90x boasts about is the lack of plateau.  Well I can tell you straight up that they arent lying.  After doing the recovery week last week I really feel like I have advanced as far as flexability goes, but then this morning when we did Plyo for the first time in 13 days I really feel like its the first time I've done it.  My HRM tells me I burned 900 calories!  900 how crazy is that, and I am telling you this I am sore from yesterdays workout but I was so tired from plyo that I forogt about it.  This is truely the reason p90x offers such great results because it is a heavily designed efficeient workout.

Also day 30 is picture day!
I havent gotten the pictures developed yet but what I have looked at so far seems to be a pretty good change.  my stomach is alot flatter and i can see the definition in my muscles.  We also did some measurements and it seem slike everything is shrinking down bti by bit.  Also another plus is that my biceps have increased by about an inch.  All in all it seems like we have had a pretty good journey so far.

Day 29

Chest, Back, Triceps

This was the first time we have done this workout and it is a really good complete arm workout.  I remember looking at the video when there was 20 minutes left and my arms felt completely dead.  But we managed to finish and finish strong so I think it was overall a good workout and I look forward to advancing.

Day 28

Stretch X

Had to wait until after work because I was so tired from doing inventory all day Monday.  It was my first day in my new position as marketing director, and I am pretty much just setting everything up.  I still have gotten a permanent computer so I cant do alot of my work but I am squeaking by with an old laptop.

Stretch X has really helped me advance my flexability and I am hoping it will help in the future when we are off recovery week.

Day 27

Core Synergistics

Once again super tough workout that makes you move in ways you arent used to in order to work out those muscles you forget about.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Day 26

Stretch X
I really like doing stretch X because I feel like I am advancing, I know I said this last time we did stretch but it is true it is a really great workout that makes your whole body feel good afterward.  I think we are actually going to do stretch again on tuesday to help with our transition into yoga x.

Day 25

We took today as a rest day because we are going to the Mardi Gras parade for my birthday.  We had a great time at the parade and I think it was a very successful birthday!

Friday, February 25, 2011

Day 24

Kenpo X

I have officially advanced to Ninja status while doing Kenpo X.  I have gotten to the point where I am doing more advanced movements than the people on the video so in my opinion that means I could beat them all up. :)  Seriously though I have been really trying to advance Kenpo X because it is by far my strongest workout, and I can really see myself advancing.

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Day 23

Happy Birthday to me!  Tiera bought me some Vibram five finger shoes and I was able to use them on my workout today.  I really like way it strengthens your feet and ankles, it really does feel like being barefoot but with the little bit padding that it provides.

Core Synergistics
Merriam Webster defines synergy as : a mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants or elements (as resources or efforts)

Well I would say Mr. Horton has been reading his dictionary because core synergistics is a work out that literally uses every muscle that you didn't know you had.  This isn't a workout that use you glamour muscles or a straight cardio,  it is a tough workout that leaves you exhausted in pretty much every muscles in your stomach and upper thighs.

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Day 22

Yoga X. meh. I like the fact that I am increasing my flexibility, but man oh manischewitz is it a long and tiring workout.  We had to wake up 30 minutes earlier just to make sure we could get it done in time for work.  And some of the moves are just so tough, its not like pushing yourself athletically because its all about keeping the calm within the storm.  and I am not quite to the right felibility yet, but I do feel like I am improving.  The good news is we are in recovery week, so that means no pull ups, no pushups, no Plyo, but we do have to do yoga twice.

Day 21

Kenpo continues to be my best workout, I try really hard to push myself...Not letting my foot hit the floor on the 3 kick set, doing jumping jacks the entire rest, and trying to through full body movement punches instead of little easy ones.  I feel like I am pushing myself, but Kenpo just doesnt leave me as tired as the other workouts.  I guess that is kind of the point, do a lite cardio workout so you dont kill yourself.  I still tend to burn in the high 600's calorie wise so its basically like running for an hour and I definetly have a fun time doing it.

Day 20

Yea buddy into the 20's!  Legs and back is a very tough workout and I do my best to try to advance my pullups.  I have always had strong legs from playing football so the legs portions are definetly challenging but I think they are pretty fun.  I really like how the different exercises isolate certain muscles, you can really feel it when you work out.  Tiera is getting alot better with these too, I have noticed a huge impact on when she started to where she is at now, and she doesnt have much of a back especially not with any kind of weights.  So it just goes to show p90x can be a great starter program also.

Day 19

We decided to try out the X-Stretch option instead of Yoga because we have to do Yoga twice next week, and it is difficult for us to get a good workout because some of the positions are really tough.  X-Stretch is a lot less advanced but it gave us the chance to work really hard and push ourselves during the exercises, so I think next week we will do X-Stretch instead of yoga for the first workout and see if it gives us better results during Yoga.

Day 18

Due to the arrival of the Hoffpauirs in Shreveport we decided to move our rest day to Saturday instead of Sunday, so today was a much needed day of relaxation.

Day 17

Shoulders and arms.  I have been alternating my weight a little bit using 15's and 25's  and boy does that 10 pounds make a difference.  Shoulders and arms is a more traditional workout atleast for as much as I am used too.   Once again ab ripper X beat me, I just cant get my stomach into p90x shape, but I am advancing little by little.

Day 16

The mother of all p90x workouts!  Plyometrics everyone who has done p90x knows this is a brutal workout, today was no exception.  squat, jump, leap, fancy hands, all these things sound nice by themselves but when you combine them all with Pam the blam the one legged guy, and the the leap frog guy it turns into an X-treme workout.  Today I burned 900 calories and had an average heaartrate in the 160's I also scored a record high 192 heart rate.  All in all it was an extremely tough workout and I felt completely dead afterward.

Day 15

Chest and Back the push pull workout is of course a really tough workout today was no exception.  My number one goal is to progress with my pull ups.  I figure if I can do one extra pull up for each set every week then eventually I will be knocking them out like they're nothing.  AB ripper X is still proving to be one of my hardest workouts, and after killing myself on the first workout I dont feel like I am progressing like I should on my abs.

Day 14

Kenpo X.

I wore my heart rate monitor today for kenpo X and to "X" it up a notch I did jumping jacks the entire 1.5 minute break.  I pushed really hard on every exercise and I was able to keep my heart rate really high (upin the 170-180's)  and my heart rate monitor said I burned 900 calories.  THats pretty awesome considering how fast the time flies.  Kenpo is, in my opinion, the most fun workout of P90X.  I always wanted to take karate and just doing the workout makes me feel like Chuck Norris.  But hey if my heart rate monitor is right which it has been accurate in the past.  Not only is it fun but also a very successful workout.

Day 13

Happy Valentines Day!  On this valentines day I would like to list the things that I do not love.
No. 1 Pullups holy crap these things are tough
No. 2 sneaky lunges whoever came up with this workout is a masochist
No. 3 One legged wall squats, it is crazy that you can take a seat and not even move around and be in so much pain.

Thats 3 of a really long list, legs and back is a pretty radical workout but the good thing is I can really see a difference in the amount of pullups I can do.  When we started I could barely do 2 and now I can do 6.  I am looking forward to the day when I can do atleast 5 of each kind because there are still alot of pullups that I have to use the chair for.

Day 12

Rest Day.  We spent Valentines Day eve putting up decorations and touch up painting over the walls where I tried to hang up art last week.  We got some pretty cool stuff and our house is now looking like a home.

Day 11

YOGA X!  Yoga is tough it was a little easier this time but man some of those positions are just hard, I am not looking forward to having to do yoga twice a week in week 4.

Day 10

OOOO double digits yea baby!  Shoulders and arms is a great workout but I have had a tough time with getting the weight right, number one I dont have a great set of weights and it takes forever to change them out, so that of course causes me to stick with the weights on the bar instead of increasing or lowering.  That being said this was the first time we have done this workout, we were supposed to do it last week but we ended up doing a different upper bosy workout on accident.  Beachbody does a great job of coming up with moves that completely isolate the muscles you are working thats what gives X-ers such great results, my arms were dead after this workout but because we had kind of a late start this morning we had to skip ab ripper X, dont worry we are doing it when we get home after work.  I dread ab ripper X because me abs right now are ridiculously sore, I cant even cough without shedding a tear, but I guess thats a good sign.  I hope everyone liked my picture for today it took me about 10 minutes to put together but I thought it was really funny.

Day 9

Day 9 of 90, that means we are 1/10 of the way though.  Not what I would call a giant leap but hey its a step in the right direction.  Today was Plyo which is one of my favorite workouts because it is so challenging.  It is tough it makes your legs ache and your whole body sore, but it is exciting so it goes by really quick, plus I am super happy because it is not followed by ab ripper X.  I cant even cough right now without feeling it in my abs.  I found a really cool app called Eat right 90, a guy made this app to couple with the p90x nutrition guide, I really need to put more emphasis into the nutrition guide, because everything I have read says that basically the difference between good results and great results are from following the guide.  So here we are on Day 9 and we are gonna do this thing right.

Day 8

Chest and Back

Tony Horton says "Bring it!"  Well ladies and gentleman it has been broughted.  Todays workout was a sheer test of willpower over strength, I obviously dont have the strength to knockout 20 pull ups.  However push ups, if done X like, have the ability to really test your mettle.  Let me explain:  In the chest and Back portion Tony tells us "pick a number" this now becomes a one on one battle against your muscles and your brain, because when you get to the point where your muscles are tired, you cant even pick up your glass of water because you are shaking so bad, or your trying to figure out whether you should be spending your break resting or hanging over the toilet, and you realize that the number you picked is five more reps away.  Well people this is an "X"ample of a test of strength.  Not so much physical strength, obviously thats important, but mental strength.  It takes alot too die out on a push up, hit the ground, and then do three more, but it can be done.  I now approach Day 9 knowing that everything I thought I could do, any weight I thought was enough, and any exercise I thought was too tough, can not only be done, but can be conquered, and then intensified.

Day 7

I am Ninja!  This morning was Kenpo X,  I really like this workout the only thing is I dont feel like it is as brutal as the others.  While this is good in theory you have to take a step back and remember what we are doing this for.  The next time we workout I am going to use my heart rate monitor to make sure I am in the zone.  Which makes me wonder what is the zone anyway, I am sure I missed it somewhere in the p90x book, but does anyone know how to calculate your optimal heart rate?

Day 6

So Yoda (our dog) was sick last night so we kinda had a restless night.  Yes we skipped our workout this morning, but it will be done at 5:00 when we get off work, no excuses, It really sucks waking up early to do p90x.  But after not doing it today I kind of miss the feeling it gives me throughout the day.

Day 5

Rest day!  We moved our 7th day which is the off day so we could have Sundays off.  SO we spent the day putting up decorations in the house and watching the Super Bowl!

Day 4

Its cold outside but all the snow is melting as Tiera and I pop in Yoga-X.  Expecting a laid back workout we soon find out there are some of the most X-treme stretches and poses that I have ever done, but we held tight and finished, and I gotta say it does a body good.

Day 3

So the roads are froze, highways are shut down, and half of my employees called in for work.  But I still managed to get my "X" on!  arms are starting to feel a little rubbery after these pull ups and dumbbells I dont know how they manage to do all these sets of pull ups with out a chair, I can barely pound them out with a chair.

P90x Day 2

There is a reason why PLYO is a four letter word!  Great work out this morning with our special guest Joseph Champion, Joe's not used to seeing this side of 6am but I think we had a pretty good workout out.
I bought some of the workout recovery mix and we have used it the past two days and really does seem to help with the soreness, which is awesome!, but it also seems to put the "X" in ex lax, Ill leave that up to your imagination.  The thing I love about Plyo is once you get the momentum going you can really push yourself on alot of the jumps and it can be a really fun workout, it also lets you know right after that you just had a good workout, because it doesn't take very long to feel the burn.

Day 1

Alright so waking up at 6:00 in the morning, putting on running shorts, and working out with Tony Horton didn't really seem like it would be very much fun.  I kind of had the advantage because I have done early morning runs in the past but I am really impressed that Tiera even rolled out of bed!  All in all day 1 was a pretty good workout pull ups of course are brutal but I am really hoping to advance through this program to the point where I can get pound out at least 10.  I don't think working out in the morning is going to be that hard to do throughout the process, but I am definitely going to get pickup a bunch of 5 hour energy, they may take a min to kick in but they seemed to act pretty fast.  I don't know if Tony would approve of 5 hour energy but its the best option I could come up with.
